Because we have free will, same reason there's evil in the world. As a species, we thrive best in groups, supporting each other, and actions which support living in groups are good, i.e. saving others' lives, even at expense of your own, being nice to people, caring about them. But some people, deep down, have a death wish, and want the entire species to die, so they act against the group, killing or hurting people. This is evil because it decreases our species' chance of survival as a whole. Luckily, most people want our species to survive, and act accordingly.
